Bellingham Int'l Airport Ph 2
- Location: Bellingham, WA
- Client: Port of Bellingham
- Size: 65,000 SF
The Bellingham International Airport has experienced an unprecedented growth from 70,000 passengers in 2005 to over 500,000 in 2012. This increase in traffic required a major expansion of the terminal from 23,000 SF to 108,000 SF. The work was accomplished in two phases.
Phase II remodeled the existing terminal and added 65,000 SF including new baggage claim and bag make-up areas, enlarged and relocated ticketing and security check points, and entire building fire protection and sprinkler upgrades. The airport remained fully operational and secure during the construction phase. The project was carefully planned and sequenced so the contractor could be productive, passengers remain safe and whole departments or areas could be temporarily relocated while the new work took place. Zervas was the architect of record and was a consultant to URS who provided airport planning and engineering.
